Hello again, I don't want to tear the ceiling out of this room, there is blown-in insulation in the attic. Can I just sheetrock right over the old sheetrock? I don't want to use strapping, I don't want the ceiling any lower than it is. |

Make sure the seams don't line up with the old ones and use 2" drywall screws. |

Painted panelling won't weigh as much but you'd still have to handle the seams somehow. |
