Are you fond a nice dirty fry up in the morning? Or how about some fancy Spanish salami for lunch? If so, then you could be on your way to an early death.
It?s bad news lads. Looks like those massive, greasy, salty breakfast rolls we all love so much aren?t that good for you. Shocker, we know.
While it?s pretty obvious that a breakfast roll a day is asking for trouble, a new study has confirmed that processed meats have actually been linked to premature deaths.
The study involved almost 450,000 people aged between 35 and 69 from 10 European countries, including the UK, France, Spain, Sweden and Greece. None of the participants had ever suffered a heart attack or stroke and none had cancer at the start of the study, reports Irish Health.
According to the report, people who ate more than 40g per day of processed meat (your average sausage weighs around 54g) had a higher risk of premature death compared to people who ate less than 20g per day.
While processed meats have been linked to an early grave, the scientists stressed that meat provides a lot of vitamins and minerals and that eating up to 40g a day of processed meats won?t do much harm. So just don?t go eating your weight in sausages anytime soon...
