HTC 'Droid Incredible 4G' appears in Verizon internal screen

The "Droid Incredible 4G" name has appeared a couple of times over the past few months, suggesting the imminent arrival of a new entry in HTC and Big Red's Droid Incredible series. Back in February we even got our first look at what seems to be a Droid Incredible-like device with Verizon 4G LTE connectivity.

Today there's even more evidence to suggest that a new Dinc may be on the way. A Verizon internal document sent to us by a tipster references the HTC Droid Incredible 4G and its model number, ADR6410. There's also some slightly less interesting stuff about MAP (minimum advertised price) policy, though no specific prices to speak of at this stage.

With the HTC One X and One S coming to Europe in the next week, and a U.S. launch likely within the next month, it makes sense for Verizon to get its own next-gen HTC handset in the near future. Purported specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and an 8MP shooter. Like the One S, the display is said to be AMOLED-based rather than One X's SLCD2. On the software side, we'd expect to see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0.

Sounds a lot like a 4G LTE version of the One S to us. Verizon people, be sure to drop by the comments and let us know if you're tempted.

So you?ve decided for childbirth at home! As well as being in a relaxing environment, you also get to choose where and in what atmosphere you give birth which may give you a feeling of control over what?s happening. When planning childbirth at home the most important thing to remember is to keep an open mind. This doesn?t mean to allow others opinions to persuade you off your choice, but instead listen to your instincts and also your midwife. You may need to be transferred to the hospital and having an open mind will make this change of plan less stressful.

BIRTH PLAN:

Now you?ve made that decision to have childbirth at home you might want to write a full birth plan. Make it as detailed as you want, highlighting or underlining the most important parts so your midwife can easily read it when the time comes. Feel free to discuss your birth plan with your midwife beforehand.

Decide whether or not you wish for a water birth. These can be done at home and can often help with the pain. If so, you?ll want a trial run to test how long it takes to inflate and fill the pool and you?ll want a good supply of hot water at all times leading up to the birth. A thermometer will come in handy too so you can test the temperature of the water.

Speaking of pain, you?ll want to discuss pain relief options with your midwife to fully prepare for your childbirth at home. Epidurals are not allowed at home however there are other options available. Decide on a pain relief you?re happy with and a back-up plan if it?s not having the desired effect.

You may want to detail in your birth plan what position you want to give birth in; whether or not you want music playing; if you want to touch the baby?s head as it crowns and if you want to find out the baby?s sex on your own. This is also the place to note whether you would prefer to tear naturally or would like a caesarean delivery in a situation where it is unavoidable.

When planning a childbirth at home you?ll want to decide whether or not you wish for an induced third stage or to deliver the placenta naturally. Discuss all your options with your midwife and make sure you know the pros and cons of each one. Highlight your choice in your birth plan.

PREPARING THE ROOM:

With childbirth at home, it?s the little touches which make the atmosphere so relaxed. Ways to prepare could include:

• Creating a playlist if you want music on during the labour

• Keeping a kettle nearby for the midwives

• Putting a plastic sheet underneath the sheets you wish to deliver on to stop the carpet/bed becoming damaged

• Stocking up on clean, dark towels for the birth

• Having some containers nearby in case you are sick and having a friend over to distract your older children in a separate room if necessary.

Finally, try to relax and have some distractions on hand for the first stage of labour.

Forward planning will help your childbirth at home to be as relaxing as it can be and reduce your stress too, so all you have to concentrate on is welcoming your little one into the world.

The Verbatim Easy Riser Bluetooth Notebook Laser Mouse ($26 street) is a competent mouse that gives you the ease of Bluetooth connectivity, but its key feature?built-in height adjustment?falls flat. It's similar in size to the Editors' Choice Logitech Couch Mouse M515 ($49.99 direct, 4 stars), and even with its foibles, it still offers a decent Bluetooth mouse for less.

Design
The height adjustment may be misleadingly described, as the adjustability isn't so much a matter of setting the height to your personal preference as it is of choosing between two height settings. The Easy Riser has two positions, raised and lowered. In the lowered position, the mouse has a profile not unlike the Logitech M600 Touch Mouse ($69.99 direct, 4 stars)?a comfortable 1.1 inches off the surface of the desk. In the raised position, the back end raises to 1.3 inches with the mouse buttons and scroll wheel shifting to a slightly steeper angle. The height change is almost entirely in the height of the mouse body, particularly the portion under the heel of the palm, closest to the wrist. For being such a key feature, the height adjustment seems like a non-starter that most will ignore.

The Easy Riser measures 1.1 by 2.2 by 3.7 inches (HWD), though it expands to be 1.3 inches thick when adjusted to its full height. It's also light, weighing a mere 3 ounces, with two AAA batteries contributing to the weight. It's lighter than the 4.6 ounce Couch Mouse M515, but has more corners, thanks to a rectangular design that allows use with either the right or left hand. The squared off shape of the Easy Riser isn't uncomfortable, but it isn't the most ergonomically friendly shape, either. Pair that with the raised wrist position that raising the Easy Riser forces your hand into, and there may be some ergonomic issues with this supposedly ergo-friendly mouse.

Features
The mouse is fairly simple to set up. Pop in the batteries, and power on the mouse using the power switch on the underside of the mouse. On your Bluetooth-equipped PC, go into Devices and Printers and click "Add a Device"?the mouse should appear, ready to pair with your laptop. If it doesn't, simply press the "connect" button on the underside of the mouse. Once you're all paired up, that's it. The beauty of Bluetooth is that there's no cord to bother with, no dongle to lose, and no goofy adapter and charger like the one used with the Razer Mamba (2012) ($129.99 direct, 4 stars). You shouldn't need to reconnect either, even when powering either the laptop or mouse on and off. Once the two are paired, you're all set, and you also get the greater range offered by Bluetooth; up to 30 feet. And, unlike the HP Wi-Fi Touch Mouse X7000 ($59.99 list, 3 stars), the mouse is the normal size and weight.

The Easy Riser is a laser mouse, using a laser optical sensor that tracks at 1600 dpi. While this isn't sensitive enough to satisfy engineers or twitch gamers who demand extreme accuracy in their mice, it's more than sufficient for day to day use in the home or office. The right and left mouse buttons click easily, though they are a bit noisy. The scroll wheel is a bit stiff, and won't provide any sort of inertia scrolling, but it's adequate. It's also clickable, serving as a programmable middle button.

The included software lets you adjust the settings, but it's rudimentary to say the least. The Mouse Settings utility lets you assign a specific action to the middle button, letting you click the scrollwheel to minimize windows, open a few predetermined menus, or you can assign the button with cut, copy, or paste functionality. You can also adjust the speed of vertical scrolling. Most users won't find the utility to be useful, but it's not needed to use the mouse either.

To conserve battery power, the Easy Riser has an automatic sleep mode that kicks in after a few minutes of disuse. Turning it back on is as simple as moving the mouse and waiting a moment for the mouse to respond. The mouse can also be turned off with a switch on the underside of the mouse, and you'll definitely want to turn it off when taking it somewhere in a laptop bag. Another handy feature?the mouse will also pop up a warning when the battery life dips too low, giving you enough notice to pick up new batteries within a few days of the two AAAs dying out.

All in all, the Verbatim Easy Riser Bluetooth Notebook Laser Mouse is a decently priced Bluetooth mouse, and for those who find it comfortable, the height adjustment shouldn't be a problem. It's more affordable than the Editors' Choice Logitech Couch Mouse M515, but it just isn't as comfortable. If comfort is a sticking point, you may want to shop around.

Green Day's Reign On Shaky Ground In Musical March Madness

There are still a few hours left before polls close in the Elite Eight of MTV's Musical March Madness, and it looks like every second — and vote — is going to count. Because, as we predicted on Wednesday, we've got more than a few epic encounters on our hands, as the remaining eight bands slug it out for a spot in the Final Four.

And, really, with matchups that include Paramore vs. Evanescence, Green Day vs. Adam Lambert and the MMM grudge match to end all MMM grudge matches (that would be Coheed and Cambria vs. Tokio Hotel), well, we'd expect nothing less. Things have been wild, to say the very least.

And so, with Elite Eight polls closing tonight at midnight ET, we figured we'd bring you up to date on all the back-and-forth battles. And they're basically all back-and-forth battles at this point. Shoot, even the My Chemical Romance/Metallica tilt seems destined to come right down to the wire. So here's where we stand with just a few precious hours left.

East
We thought the MCR/Metallica matchup had the potential to be a blowout, and for a while, it looked like those predictions would be correct: MMM heavyweights My Chem surged to a huge lead over road-weary Metallica, though, as the hours wore on, Hetfield and company dug deep, and have been staging a furious comeback ever since. As of this afternoon, they still trail MCR by a fairly sizable amount (something like 12,000 votes), but the gap is closing by the minute. Do they have enough left in the tank to overtake My Chem, or will Gerard and the boys make MMM history and advance to their third-straight Final Four? We'll just have to wait and see.

West
There's a huge upset brewing out West, as #11 Adam Lambert has got defending MMM champs Green Day on the ropes. Somewhat surprisingly, this matchup has seen more votes cast than any other in the Elite 8, as the Glambert Nation has shown up in full to support their man. Barring a tremendous rally, it looks like Green Day are going to have to relinquish the trophy, which, given the fact they never bothered to pick it up in the first place, should actually be quite easy. Sort of like Lambert's dominance up to this point.

East
The biggest MMM rematch in years — 2010 champs Coheed and Cambria once again facing off against eternal MMM bridesmaids Tokio Hotel, in a battle wrought with historical tension — has, instead, turned into a massacre. Though fans of both bands have been lobbing accusations of cheating (as much a MMM tradition as the trophy itself, it would seem), we've been monitoring this one closely ... and, Tokio fans, you're seemingly home free. With hours left, Tokio are pasting Coheed (to the tune of some 440,000 votes) and seem destined to return to the Final Four. Then again, as we've learned in the past, you can't count Coheed's Children of the Fence out — but sufficed to say, they've got their work cut out for them if they want to help their favorite band advance. Just keep it clean, folks.

The first #1 vs. #2 matchup in Musical March Madness history has most definitely lived up to the advance billing, as top-seeded Evanescence and #2 Paramore have been slugging it out since polls opened. Early on, this one was as close as double digits though, as it stands now — with nearly 2 million votes cast — it's Ev who hold the lead (we see you, Amy Lee!) Does the Para-clan have one more rally left in them, or will Evanescence run the table and become the first-ever #1 seed to make the Final Four? The hour is growing late, though we suspect this one isn't over just yet.

DETROIT (AP) ? A Michigan militia leader cleared of conspiring to direct a war against the U.S. says the acquittal of his group likely will stir up dissension among people who already distrust the government.

David Stone says people suspicious about the government now know "their paranoia is true." He spoke Thursday after pleading guilty to possessing a machine gun. The crime is much less serious than conspiring to commit sedition and use bombs ? charges against Stone and others that were thrown out Tuesday by a Detroit federal judge.

The FBI planted an informant and an agent in the Hutaree militia, secretly recording Stone's anti-government views and talk about killing police. He says his comments were taken out of context and believes agents should be disciplined.

A Michigan militia leader and his son each pleaded guilty Thursday to illegally possessing a machine gun, ending a six-week trial that took a dramatic turn this week when a judge dismissed more serious charges of conspiring to rebel against the government.

Gun charges were the only counts left against David Stone and Joshua Stone after U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts said prosecutors had failed to present evidence of a specific plan to go to war against law enforcement and federal authorities. She acquitted them and five other members of the Hutaree militia.

David Stone, 51, and Joshua Stone, 23, of Lenawee County, Mich., each admitted they possessed a machine gun. They have been locked up without bond for two years and could face additional prison time after their guilty pleas.

Prosecutors asked that David Stone stay in custody until sentencing, but Roberts released the father and son. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheldon Light said the elder Stone still was a threat to the public.

For weeks, jurors in Detroit heard secretly recorded conversations between David Stone and an FBI informant and agent. He talked about killing police, building bombs and engaging an international coalition of freedom-hating law enforcers dubbed the "brotherhood."

Federal authorities said the Hutaree wanted to kill an officer, attack the funeral, cause chaos in the countryside and launch war against the government. But prosecutors this week acknowledged there was no specific plan ? an admission that clearly irritated the judge.

Let?s dispense with inspiration from the start, because nothing causes more dissatisfaction and disappointment in a writer?s life than the myth of the thunderbolt.

I have met, through the years, so many frustrated writers who have spent hour upon hour waiting for inspiration to arrive, waiting for that One Big Idea to land in their frontal lobes and fulfill their fantasies of becoming geniuses. Oh, I know the feeling well enough. I am not immune to the vagaries of desire. But artist after artist, writer after writer, will tell you that this is simply not how it works?and I know from my own experience that they speak the truth.

Instead of the lightning bolt to the forehead, the million-dollar insight, a writer finds the best ideas in trial and error, in sentences that start out one way and surprisingly, uncontrollably, end up pulling in another direction, in the toppled mess of a third draft that tumbles into a pile of half-finished thoughts.

This is perhaps the first and most important application of mindfulness for a writer: Show up and get to work, and at the same time, listen to where the writing wants to take you. Understand that the writing itself will often provide far richer material than your logical, predictable mind. Even more ?intellect- driven? writing?for instance, a dissertation?can benefit from the cognitive leaps that occur when you stand back from the manuscript a moment and listen to your intuition. Often our ideas about where we think a poem, story, or essay should go are all too willing to drown out the small whisper that is suggesting,?No, that?s not really as honest as this impulse over here. No, that?s not quite right.?

Fridley's Cancer Rates Baffles Health Experts ? CBS Minnesota

FRIDLEY, Minn. (WCCO) ? Minnesota state health experts are looking into an unusually high cancer rate in one Twin Cities community that?s also caught the eye of environmental activist Erin Brockovich.

Between 2000 and 2009, Fridley saw 10 percent more cancer cases than would be expected for a city of its size. Lung cancer was 30 percent higher than expected, and breast cancer was 8 percent higher.

Jason McCarty grew up in Fridley, and when he started thinking about all the people who died of cancer that he knew, he thought it was more than just a coincidence.

?It just kind of makes you wonder,? he said.

McCarty has heard folks in Fridley talk about the cancer rates, considered soaring to some.

At first he regarded it as ?small town gossip,? but then he started pursuing answers as to why people have gotten sick. He started Fridley Cancer Cluster Facebook page in honor of his buddy Brad. At 49 years old, Brad recently died of brain cancer.

With nearly 1,200 Facebook fans of the page, McCarty recently added another.

?Dear Jason,? he said, as he read an email, ?I am deeply sorry to hear about this situation in Fridley, Minnesota.?

That letter came from environmental activist Erin Brockovich. Her team is now looking for an answer.

?There was an excess of all types of cancers combined,? said John Soler, who studies cancer in groups of people at the Minnesota Department of Health. He and his team are looking for a cause too.

Superfund sites like the River Road Industrial Center could be a start. There?s also Fridley Commons Well Field, which the government says was contaminated. But pin-pointing the cause will be tough.

?We can?t really look at our data and say, ?This is a group of people exposed to this chemical 20, 30 years ago.? Most of them didn?t live there,? Soler said.

He also admits that it?s often not possible to find a clear answer.

Soler said the percentage increase in cancer rates is actually a preliminary number right now. He needs to look at Census data more closely, and even go back farther in Census data than previously. He thinks that number could change, once he has all the data.

McCarty is just looking for any news, which, in his eyes, would be welcome news.

?I know a lot of people with cancer,? he said.

He could rattle off dozens of names. He hopes someday that he won?t be able to, and the talk in town will shift to something else.

Marimekko embrace of bold colors and design began in 1951. It was the middle of the post-World War II reconstruction, and?founders Vilio and Armi Ratia tapped into Finland's longing for a fresh start and brighter colors.

Marimekko products ? the name literally means "Mary?s dress" in Finnish ? ?first gained fame beyond Scandinavia in 1957 when the company was invited to to a fashion exhibition in Milan, Italy. The show was cancelled, but the garments were showcased by Giorgio Armani, then store manager of Rinascente,?a luxury department store in Milan.?

Ratia?s entrepreneur acuteness combined with bold textile designs would transform the company into ??one of the true icons of a very particular era: the idealistic, vibrant days of the 1960s? wrote Ivar Ekman in the New York Times.

With the vision of pioneering Finnish textile designers Maija Isola and Vuokko Nurmesniemi, Marimekko introduced bold fabrics that revolutionized the industry and became synonymous with dynamic women.

Ms. Isola designed the famous Unikko (poppy) print pattern in bold red, pink, and black on white, a pattern still in production.? Nurmesniemi created the red-and-white striped Jokapoika shirt, a landmark product in the company?s history.

Marimekko entered the American market via its exclusive commercial representative, architect Benjamin C. Thompson, who displayed Marimekko products prominently in his Design Research retail stores.? However, it was Jacqueline Kennedy who gave them nationwide fame during the 1960 presidential campaign when she was featured in a Life magazine cover wearing a Marimekko dress. ??

The company?s expansion continued and Crate and Barrel established a lasting business relationship with Marimekko that goes back in 1966.

Marimekko's own catalogue consists of clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags, and other accessories.?

During the 1990s, the company experienced financial woes that brought it one step short of bankruptcy. But under the strong stewardship of Kirsti Paakkanen, Marimekko regained financial footing and its brand momentum.?

In the late 1990s, the company resurged in popularity in the US with the help of the TV series "Sex and the City" when the main character, Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker), repeatedly wore Marimekko clothes.

These days, with the rediscovery of the 1960s and 1970s fashion, Marimekko is again in the spotlight. ??We have realized that hard-edged modernism needs softening, so that it gets a human feel. Marimekko does that very well," said design historian Charlotte Fiell, according to the New York Times.

The Helsinki-headquartered company has 90 stores around the globe.?

Mali soldiers claim to have seized power

Renegade Mali soldiers on Thursday claimed they had seized power from an "incompetent regime," announcing on television they had suspended the constitution and dissolved state institutions.

The putschists, calling themselves the National Committee for the Establishment of Democracy, said they had acted due to government's "inability" to handle a Tuareg-led insurrection in the north of the country.

A group of a few dozen soldiers appeared on state television at about 0445 GMT after a few false starts battling to get audio equipment working and hours of music videos playing after seizing the broadcaster in Bamako.

The group's spokesman, identified on-screen as Lieutenant Amadou Konare said the takeover was a result of a "lack of adequate material to defend the nation" as well as government's inability to combat terrorism.

Claiming to represent the nation's defence forces, Konare said the junta "solemnly commits to restore power to a democratically-elected president as soon as national unity and territorial integrity are re-established."

The leader of the junta was revealed to be one Captain Amadou Sanogo, who appeared briefly to announce the imposition of a national curfew, without specifying the time.

The appearance on television came shortly after the mutinous soldiers seized the presidential palace and arrested several ministers, including Foreign Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga and Interior Minister Kafouhouna Kone.

"We are in control of the presidential palace," one of the rebels told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile an independent source said President Amadou Toumani Toure, earlier holed up in the palace as shots were traded outside, had managed to leave the premises.

What began as a mutiny over the government's response to the rekindled Tuareg rebellion in the north on Wednesday afternoon turned into a full-blown coup as soldiers seized control of the government broadcaster and attacked the presidential palace.

Witnesses reported heavy gunfire and the use of tracer bullets, while one noted flames coming from the southern side of the presidential palace, perched on a hill overlooking Bamako.

Calls for calm poured in from abroad as the United Nations, France and United States expressed alarm at the events unfolding in the landlocked west African nation.

Elite paratroopers known as the "Red Berets" had attempted to defend the presidency, but the renegade soldiers claimed the upper hand.

The coup comes just a month before Toure was due to step down ahead of April elections after serving two presidential terms. He was not a candidate.

The president is himself a former soldier who led the ouster of president-for-life Moussa Traore in 1991 before handing power to civilians. He later won an election in 2002 and was re-elected in 2007.

Under his leadership Mali -- which has battled successive Tuareg rebellions since independence and more recently Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) activities -- has since been hailed as a growing democratic success in the region.

The Tuareg, many of whom fled drought and discontent under a southern government to work and fight for Moamer Kadhafi in Libya, returned heavily armed and battle-experienced after that country's conflict last year.

In mid-January they launched a fresh rebellion for independence of what they call Azawad, their stomping ground which makes up the vast desert northern triangle of the bow-tie shaped nation.

Anger has grown in recent weeks over the government's handling of the conflict in which the Tuareg attacks have caused up to 200,000 people to flee.

While no official death toll is available, many soldiers are believed to have died in the fighting or taken prisoner.

Wednesday's turmoil erupted when efforts by Defence Minister Sadio Gassama to ease tensions at a military barracks outside the capital turned sour and soldiers fired shots into the air as they demanded proper weapons with which to face the rebels.

"We want ammunition to go and fight the Tuareg rebels. Enough is enough," a corporal at the Kati camp told AFP.

Soldiers took to the capital, firing shots wildly into the air and sending people running in all directions as panic grew.

There were immediate international calls for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

"We believe that grievances should be addressed through dialogue, not through violence," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, urging US citizens to stay indoors. The UN Security Council also appealed for calm.

"Members of the council expressed concern about the reports of military disturbances in Mali. They appealed for calm from all stakeholders and respect for the constitutional order," said Britain's UN ambassador Mark Lyall Grant, the council president for March.

Anger has been simmering in Mali over the government's stance and in February violent protests broke out as the wives and families of those fighting the rebels took to the streets.

Ill-equipped against the heavily armed Tuareg, in some cases soldiers abandoned their barracks in smaller towns as they withdrew to defend larger targets in the vast, desert zone.

A nomadic community of some 1.5 million people, Tuareg of various tribes are scattered between Algeria, Burkina Faso, Libya, Niger and Mali.

Mali and Niger experienced uprisings as the Tuareg fought for recognition of their identity and an independent state in the 1960s, 1990s and early 2000, with a resurgence between 2006 and 2009.
